Scott Tournet and the Spark

This band is a blast. Killer songs, high energy, amazing players, and screaming fans. And we’re only getting started. Here’s our “audition tape” for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Scott Tournet and the Spark “Hold Your Head Up High”

Here’s a lyric video I edited for one of the tunes on the album Rock and Roll Stories.

Burt the Dirt

Burt the Dirt is such a class act, and the music fills your soul. It’s been pure joy playing with these fine fellas. We cover some wonderful classic country tunes, some old American rock and roll, and we have a large catalogue of originals. Working with these guys have been one of my favorite musical experiences and the love and warmth is absolutely infectious. Here’s our cover of the Band’s Ophelia with the great Jonathan Sloane joining us.

And here’s Bronson singing “Such a Night” by Dr. John as done on the Last Waltz.

Check out more videos of Burt the Dirt on our YouTube page.

The Gabe Stillman Band

I feel so fortunate to have gotten the call from guitar-slinger Gabe Stillman. He’s a monster player, fantastic songwriter, and superb band leader. With Colin Beatty on the bass, and the legendary Ray Hangen on drums, this band is wicked tight. Here’s a great Anson Funderburgh tune called Tell Me What I Want to Hear done at the 2022 Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival.

Mary Prankster

I had the distinct honor to play a role in Mary Prankster’s 2019 release “Thickly Settled.” The album is fantastic and it gave me the opportunity to work with some amazing artists. This album was only supported with live shows at the Ottobar in Baltimore and the Birchmere in Virginia, but they both sold out and the entire experience was heavenly. Mary pops her head out every few years. Don’t miss it the next time she’s performing. She’s a gem. (I play Fender Rhodes on this track.)

The Jose Ramirez Band

Here’s a sampling of the Jose Ramirez Band in January, 2020. We were the support act for the talented Vanessa Collier that night at one of my favorite clubs anywhere: the Hamilton. I toured a third of the US in a whirlwind month with Jose and his old DC band. Traveling with Jose, bassist Charles “Reds” Adkins, and drummer Rod Gross was a blast.

Walrus Boot with Mark Stanley

Walrus Boot was a band that never had a gig. But that’s OK because recording and rehearsing for this video shoot was total joy. From the mind of Mark Stanley, Walrus Boot was a funky experiment of sounds and feels. Mark brought in some incredible players for this, starting with the drummer from Clutch Jean-Paul Gaster. On bass was Crack the Sky’s own Dave DeMarco. Horn players are my old friends Dave Sames and Chris Reiher. My good friend and colleague Dave Cooper took the video, and I put the whole thing together. We did each track three times, and even without a click track, JP was able to lock it down so tight that editing was a breeze.

Bronson Hoover Jazz Quartet

There’s no greater thrill than playing improvisational music with masters of their craft. For this performance I was joined by some of my favorite artists: Eric Kennedy on percussion, Amy Shook on bass, and Jonathan Epley on guitar.

The Abbey Road Jazz Ensemble

The Abbey Road Jazz Ensemble is the perfect mashup. Jazz and Beatles. We take your old favorites, strip them down to their core, and build them back up into new jazz standards. The group is the brainchild of drummer James Herron. It features the silky Craig Gildner on guitar and vocals, the hardest working bass player in DC Cynthia Elliott, and vocalist Holly Shockey. We took a few years off so James could go on walk-about, but we’re back for a few shows a year. www.abbeyroadjazz.com

One of my favorite spots is the 18th & 21st in Columbia, Maryland. It’s the posh supper club tucked away in the back of Cured. On this night I was joined by one of my favorite collaborators: Neil Lewis. Our musical conversations begin before we play the first note. It’s just easy.

Here’s some six hand piano fun with the amazingly talented Deanna Bogart and one of my favorite DC players Bill Starks.

Fun with the great Deanna Bogart and Bill Starks!

I don’t sing very often, but I really enjoy it. Here’s my take on John Mayer’s “Love is a Verb” with some friends from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville. I also played drums and piano for this track as well as engineering the mix and editing the video.

Here’s a montage of a show I did with XRay and the Shades. That band is led by drummer James Herron. On this date it featured Jonathan Epley and Ethan Foote. The video quality wasn’t the best to work with, but you’ll get the idea.
